Mitsubishi ASX Test Drive Review

Mitsubishi has given a mid-life refresh to its ASX crossover, reshaping the front grille and adding
a new six-speed auto gearbox in the range-topping 4 trim level, available only in all-wheel drive form and with the 150hp 2.2 diesel.

The combination pushes CO2 up to 153g/km, compared with 134g/km for the front-wheel drive 1.8 diesel, but the ASX is cheaper than rival all-wheel drive autos such as the Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5 or Nissan Qashqai, although all three are better quality packages, slightly larger, and nicer to be, in part due to the ASX's frankly horrible Kenwood audio system. On the plus side, Bluetooth is now standard on the 2 trim level, and the 4 trim gets a panoramic glass roof.

Otherwise, the auto gearbox works well, and the powertrain comes together nicely to offer a smooth and refined package. The ASX also wins on cost per mile against the other main all-wheel drive diesel autos, combining a decent RV with low P11D and competitive emissions.
