Porsche Panamera One-minute Test

Date: 22 August 2014   |   Author:

Porsche has upgraded its Panamera diesel saloon, with a 50hp power increase coming at an extra £2367 compared with the 250hp model it replaces.

Excellent

The emissions only go up by 3g/km to 169g/km, while fuel economy is reduced by 0.7mpg. On the flip side, the 0-62mph acceleration now takes six seconds, down from 6.8secs, and the top speed is 161mph, up by 10mph.

Good

Residual values are good on the Panamera, given that it's an expensive car. Low 40s for a percentage retained is more than acceptable.

Average

There's not as much boot space as a BMW 640 Gran Coupe or particularly an Audi A7 Sportback, and both those models are prettier than the divisive Panamera, which does, though, benefit from the Porsche brand cachet.

Poor

While less than 170g/km for a 300hp performance saloon is impressive, it looks less so when compared with the BMW 640d Gran Coupe, which is slightly more powerful yet 21g/km more efficient.

Verdict

Great power improvement and decent practicality for minimal running costs increase - but it's not cheap.
