Ford Kuga One Minute Test

Date: 03 August 2015   |   Author:

Ford has revamped the engine line-up on its Kuga small off-roader, making big efficiency improvements over the previous range. A pair of diesels with 150hp and 180hp are now offered, along with the new 1.5-litre 150hp Ecoboost petrol driven here.

Excellent

The Kuga maintains Ford's reputation for cars that handle well, and it certainly outpoints any of its rivals for driving experience.

Good

The emissions gains range from 8-19g/km over the previous model, which is handy, and the new 150hp diesel gets as low as 122g/km.

Average

Residual values and CO2 figures for this petrol version are both reasonable, without troubling the impressive Mazda CX-5. The latest Kuga's styling is also a little over-fussy for some, particularly at the front end. The petrol is almost £2000 cheaper than the equivalent diesel model, although CPM is higher.

Poor

Boot space isn't as large as rivals such as the Mazda CX-5 or Honda CR-V, and the touchscreen infotainment system is looking a little dated against the Mondeo's larger and more modern system.

Verdict

Much-needed efficiency improvements give the Kuga refreshed appeal against increasingly competent rivals. It's still up with the class best.
