Ford S-max One Minute Test

We've already driven Ford's new S-max in higher Titanium spec, but this is the entry-level Zetec version of the company's successful seven-seater. Ford reckons around 30% of buyers will plump for the base model, seen here in the most popular 150hp 2.0-litre diesel form that kicks off the range.
Why is it interesting?
The S-max dominates the large seven-seat arena, and the new model gets emissions below 130g/km. It's worth noting, though, that the Zetec isn't very well-equipped, and Ford expects more buyers to move up to the Titanium and Titanium Sport iterations.
How are the running costs?
The S-max has always performed well in RV terms, and the current car achieved 37.9% in this engine and trim combination. Sub-130g/km CO2 is useful, but the entry diesel engine is only just about powerful enough for a big car, and those expecting to fill it with a load or family might be better looking at the 180hp diesel.
Any other business?
The S-max remains peerless among full seven-seaters in its sportier looks and handling, but the new model's lighter steering means it isn't as conducive to enthusiastic driving as it was.
