The start point for the best source of fleet information

Suzuki Vitara One Minute Test

Suzuki's new Vitara small off-roader is another example of the Japanese firm's moves into the mainstream and therefore fleet consideration. The compact yet practical car comes with 1.6-litre 120hp petrol or diesel engines, and it's the diesel we've sampled here.

Excellent

For a car with four-wheel drive capability, 111g/km is a good result, just 5g/km or one BIK band higher than the two-wheel drive alternative.

Good

The Vitara is a pretty stylish thing, with more character than many in this segment, and this follows through to the interior.

Average

This car isn't the budget option you might expect from a brand like Suzuki, with the all-wheel drive Vauxhall Mokka Tech Line coming in nearly £1700 cheaper, and the Suzuki matching the price of Fiat's 500X. A residual value of 32.2% is also reasonable, but is bettered by others in the class.

Poor

The touchscreen system for nav and audio controls is a triumph of form over function and could certainly be more user-friendly, while diesel engine refinement isn't the Vitara's strongest card.

Verdict

A likeable, efficient and comfortable small off-roader that struggles a little on cost per mile because it doesn't lead for either price or RV.
