Toyota Yaris One Minute Test

Date: 22 January 2015

Engine as tested: 1.33 Dual VVTi
Price as tested: £14,690

Toyota has updated its Yaris with new specification features designed to widen customer appeal. Aircon, Toyota's latest Touch 2 multimedia system with DAB and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are now standard on the Icon trim.

Why is it interesting?

The addition of the extra spec make the Yaris more attractive and helps it to stand out compared to the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa.

How are the running costs?

The additional spec may help the Yaris to compete because it's more expensive to run per mile at 37.3p compared with the Fiesta Zetec at 35.7p and the Corsa SE at 36.4p. This is partly down to a higher BIK band at 15% due to its three-cylinder petrol engine having a higher CO2 output of 114g/km compared with rivals.

Any other business?

Touch 2 is an updated version of Toyota's touch-screen multimedia system with a new, higher-res seven-inch display. It includes Bluetooth for hands-free phone calls, sending and receipt of text messages and audio streaming; a rear-view camera; car info, including trip data, climate control profile; and management of settings for door locking and lighting.

Verdict

Lots of standard kit, but costs leave the Yaris in the middle of the pack
7/10
