Volvo V60 Cross Country One Minute Test

Date: 04 November 2015   |   Author:

The V60 Cross Country is the off-road version of the V60 estate, adding 65mm of extra ground clearance and the option of four-wheel drive for added all-weather traction and a little off-road ability.

Excellent

Claimed economy of 67.3mpg and 111g/km CO2 emissions for the front-wheel drive D4 model compare favourably with jacked-up versions of other estate cars, while refinement levels and comfort are both very impressive.

Good

The Cross Country may be no sports car, but it is satisfying to drive and quite rapid too. Residuals are substantially better than Seat and Skoda rivals, coming just behind the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack.

Average

Whole-life costs are higher than Seat and Skoda equivalents despite reasonable residuals - at 5p more per mile than the Skoda - while the equivalent standard V60 is 3p per mile less, making that a more sensible option for business users.

Poor

Two-wheel drive means that this V60 CC offers no tangible added off-road ability, while the four-wheel drive version comes with an automatic gearbox and emits a hefty 149g/km, adding 7% to the BIK rates

Verdict

Comfortable, refined and fast, the V60 CC is relatively appealing in isolation, but four-wheel drive Seat and Skoda rivals are better value, as is the standard V60
