10 things we learned about the Audi A4 Avant

Chic, sleek and great for your fleet, but can the Audi A4 Avant haul loadsa luggage, wonders Al Suttie?

1 - It's a handsome bit of kit, the A4 Avant and it's all the more attractive for being so darned practical.

2 - The Audi offers more boot space when the rear seats are occupied than its BMW or Mercedes rivals.

3 - You'll also find more room in the Avant when you drop the easily folded 60/40 split rear seats, so it's the roomiest in class.

4 - The flat load floor and low load sill further make life easy to heft in and out weighty cargo.

5 - As well as more space for chattels, the Audi offers up excellent accommodation for people in both rows of seats.

6 - On top of this, that old Audi magic with materials and finish shines through in every switch and stitch.

7 - Our test car came with the 2.0 TDI 190 turbodiesel in 'ultra' form with seven-speed S tronic auto for a relaxed drive.

8 - It's a frugal drive too thanks to emissions of 104g/km and combined economy claimed at 70.6mpg to better its German competitors.

9 - Are there any downsides to this seemingly faultless machine? Well, adding extras ups the price a fair bit.

10 - Even so, the A4 Avant is one of those cars that leaves a deep, lasting impression of quality.
