The Mini One 5dr is about as sensible as MINIs get, so is it still any fun asks Al Suttie?
1 - Family-friendly five-door Mini makes sense, even if it does trade some of the three-door's more balanced looks.
2 - The rear doors, however, make this Mini's rear seat usable and it just about accommodates a couple of kids.
3 - Remove the false boot floor and the Mini's luggage capacity is on par with a VW Polo's.
4 - Up front, the driver is treated to the same comfort, space and style as any Mini hatch, which is all to the good.
5 - Comfortable, supportive driving seat is low-set to impart that essential Mini feel, but getting out is still easy.
6 - All of the controls are ideally weighted in the Mini and the six-speed manual gearbox has a pleasingly precise, fluid action.
7 - There are plenty of neat interior details, including the cabin lighting that sets the Mini apart from most rivals'.
8 - A turbocharged three-pot 1.2-litre engine doesn't sound like a recipe for fun, but it's a deceptively lively wee motor.
9 - Flexible and willing, the engine comes on song from 2000rpm and, combined the slick gearbox, makes the MINI One enjoyable to drive.
10 - The ride is well controlled but feels as if there's not enough suspension travel, so MINI has emulated the original to a tee here.
