10 things we learned about the Ford Mondeo Econetic this week

Do you have to sacrifice driving pleasure when you go frugal with a Mondeo, wonders Al Suttie?
1 - There's no doubting the Mondeo ECOnetic's low-cost credentials thanks to 78.5mpg and 94g/km.
2 - It also comes with Auto Start-Stop and active grille shutters to maximise efficiency at all times.
3 - Green it may be, but this is still a Mondeo, so the ride is cushily absorbent and it wafts along with the best of them.
4 - That's just as well when 0-62mph takes a laid-back 12.1 seconds, but there's more to this 1.5-litre diesel.
5 - It's refined, so you don't mind not being a contender in the great traffic light Grand Prix.
6 - Quiet, calm, relaxed progress is the name of the game here and it soon lures you into an equally unhurried approach.
7 - Mind you, the Mondeo can carry speed through corners thanks to the excellent handling, even on it small-ish 16-inch wheels in Style trim.
8 - With four occupants on-board, the ECOnetic remained smooth and happy to cruise.
9 - You do need to drop a gear or two on some motorway inclines and to keep pace with the flow along country roads.
10 - However, this is a pleasure thanks to the slick manual gearbox, endowing this Mondeo with more fun than some more powerful siblings.
