The new 143PS diesel in the latest A4 is one of the car's most impressive features.
Compared with the previous unit it's smooth, refined and feels plenty quick enough now we're well past the 1000-mile running-in period.
Economy also appears impressive, at least according to the on-board trip computer. Only in heavily populated urban conditions is it possible to get below 40mpg, and longer runs are easily showing 50mpg.
It'll be interesting to see if economy gets even better with miles, and there will be plenty of those with a couple of continental jaunts on the horizon.
