The separately hinged glass part is handy for stuffing in those last few items

When it first arrived our 330d Touring impressed us immediately with its performance.

Soon after it was the turn of the fuel economy as the 258hp 3.0-litre engine averaged over 40mpg for the first few tanks despite being faster to 60mph than a Porsche Boxster.

Now I've spent more time with the car there are smaller details that are proving just as noteworthy.

For example, I absolutely love the powered tailgate and particularly the separately hinged glass section, which means you can either just quickly drop items through the hatch rather than opening the whole bootlid, or you can load the last few bits through the glass area when cramming in a boot full of stuff.

Both the powered tailgate and separate glass section are standard-fit on all 3-series Tourings.

Verdict

  • Incredible performance for the efficiency
  • Infotainment system isn't class-leading
