Our Fleet Test Drive: Ford Mondeo - 7th report

Date: 08 July 2015   |   Author: Hugh Hunston

Big and comfortable

With editor Paul Barker borrowing 'my' Seat Leon ST X-perience for a Continental holiday, I have become Mondeo man on a temporary basis, taking custody of the latest 150hp 2.0-litre diesel version.

The cosmetically and technically enhanced hatchback is a substantial car, but its bulk and weight (1578kg) are in line with its long-distance ability.

Over the initial 1500 miles in BusinessCar hands, the relaxed and muscular, six-speed diesel has averaged 47.8mpg, a slightly disappointing 30.6% shy of the official 68.9mpg combined figure. But that still computes to an impressive, realistically attainable range of circa 700 miles courtesy of a 62-litre, or nearly 14-gallon, tank

Mileage                                                                  5719
P11D price                                                        £22,490
Forecast/actual cost per mile                      48.6p/51.8p
Our average consumption                               48.2mpg
Official combined consumption                           68.9pg

Verdict

  • Fuel efficiency starting to improve
  • Not the most exciting upper medium model
