Our Fleet Test Drive Honda CR-V - 6th report

Date: 13 August 2014   |   Author:

This winter's damp weather better suited my long-term CR-V than the cold, icy and generally white conditions of recent years.

The 119g/km CR-V achieves such an impressive emissions figure in part by being front-wheel drive - rather than bringing a heavier all-wheel drive system into play - but that leaves the potential for embarrassment when a car with go-anywhere looks can't get further than a family hatchback in snowy conditions.

But rather than testing traction, this winter challenged ground clearance, with one particularly flood-riddled cross-country journey completed without fuss while smaller vehicles were turning back at the sight of some hefty standing water.

A colleague also grabbed the Honda for a trip to the West Country, where access to the overnight stay was via a rutted muddy lane. Although the danger of getting stuck was small, the chances the CR-V had no fear of grounding.
