Our Fleet Test Drive: Hyundai i30 5dr - 7th Report

For three weeks myself and fellow contributing editor Guy Bird swapped cars. He ran 'my' Citroen DS5 and I took 'his' Hyundai i30.
Part of the reasoning for the swap was to see if we were both doing the wrong sort of journeys to get the best fuel consumption. Despite the cars having near identical mid-70s official mpg figures, we were both achieving in the mid-40s.
So, how did I do in the i30? After brimming the car and then covering 533 miles before brimming again I did pleasingly well with a 62.2mpg average over a mix of short, daily, cold-start school runs and a couple of longer motorway journeys.
Interestingly, despite being externally smaller than the DS5, there's more practical room inside the i30. And despite being approximately £14,000 cheaper it has a radio that you can tune to AM.
The only negative point was that the seatbelt clip is mounted too close to the Isofix point, making fastening a child in near impossible. But as you may have guessed, I still didn't want to swap back.
