It's taken while, but the time has come at last to discuss the boot of our long-term Mazda 6 Tourer.
I'm not quite sure how, but I seem to have been running the Mazda 6 Tourer for almost a year now and the 'Tourer' bit has had barely a mention.
To fix that, this is everything you need to know about the estate version of the Mazda 6. First up, the Tourer is by far the better looking version when compared with the four-door saloon. To this writer's eye the proportions just look better on the model that costs an additional £800.
With the rear seats in place there's 506 litres of space. That's about average in the class, but it's still plenty big enough for luggage for a family holiday (or two medium-sized border collies).
However, unlike some rivals, almost all of the boot space is above the boot floor, making the everyday usable space bigger than most rivals.
With the seats folded there's a cavernous 1648 litres of space, or enough for a trip to Ikea. The clever thing about the back-seat folding is that it can be done one handed from the rear of the boot, so when you're loading the car at Ikea you don't need to drop everything while you fill it up.
And finally, on a day-to-day basis, the roller cover for the boot is attached to the tailgate so that it opens and closes with the boot. Only if you're putting in border collies (other breeds of dog are available) do you need to retract it.
