The start point for the best source of fleet information

Our Fleet Test Drive: Mazda 6 2.2D - 13th Report

Date: 10 February 2014   |   Author: Tristan Young

Mileage: 11,706
P11D price: £26,290
Our average consumption: 48.5mpg
Official combined consumption: 64.2mpg
Forecast CPM: 59.8p

I'm not that happy with average fuel economy of 48.5mpg for our 6, which is just the wrong side of 50mpg for a car with an official figure well above 60mpg.

And I've spent the vast proportion of the first 12,000 miles driving in a most saintly way, too.

I have, however, discovered that if you go above 60mph the consumption deteriorates rapidly, which is an issue given the motorway miles I do, and also that mpg is gradually improving, and I'm now seeing more tank fills above 50mpg than below.

Hopefully, a service and oil change, due shortly,  will help even more.

Verdict

  • Best all-rounder in the segment
  • Low-grade plastics, no autofold mirrors
