Just like its 'sister' CLA - which boasts the best drag co-efficient figure of any mainstream car at 0.23 Cd - Merc has made a big effort to improve the A's aerodynamics, with improved mpg the beneficiary.
The A-class features radiator grille louvres that stay shut when air cooling isn't required - to direct air around rather than through the car - an extended underbody, and optimised exterior mirrors to direct air along the side of the car without significant disruption.
The result is a Cd of 0.27; the Audi A3 Sportback by contrast is 0.31. Good work Merc.
