Our Fleet Test Drive: Renault Captur - 2nd report

Our Captur has had its first long run, courtesy of an overnight trip from Sussex to Birmingham, cramming in the ridiculous but necessary levels of general stuff that accompanies two small children on any such voyage.
I'm pretty impressed with the Captur on first inspection. It looks good, (although the grey paintwork makes it a little drabber than some of the brighter colours on offer), and the interior follows on from the great new Clio in showing that Renault has moved on in terms of cabin quality.
My biggest problem with the 377-litre boot is that it's not actually wide enough to lay a folding pushchair across, so I had to lay it diagonally and then pack around it, which is a pain when you get to your destination and need the pushchair out before the overnight bags.
But on the numbers at least, the Captur has a slightly bigger boot than its Vauxhall Mokka and Peugeot 2008 rivals, while the Nissan Juke only offers a tiny 252 litres - 126 litres behind the Renault.
We averaged 51.1mpg on a stop-start run up followed by free-flowing return leg, which compares with the official 76.4mpg figure. Normally anything over 75% of the official combined figure would be good, so we'll monitor how that develops over the next few months.
