Our Fleet Test Drive: Renault Kadjar -3rd report

Date: 27 April 2016   |   Author: David Motton

Equipment: 6 airbags, satnav, DAB radio, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, hands-free key card, 19in alloys, front and rear parking sensors, part-leather upholstery
Options: Techno Pack Premium, which adds hands-free parking, rear parking camera, blind-spot warning and autonomous emergency braking (£800), Explore Pack, which adds a retractable tow ball and bike rack (£795), Flame Red metallic paint (£625),

I'm not a fan of bundling every last control onto a touchscreen for the sake of an uncluttered dash. Renault has resisted this temptation with the R-Link 2 system, with the air-conditioning controls kept separate.

There are still some foibles that I find hard to get used to, though. The 'home' button to the left of the screen leads to the eco-driving display. To find what I would think of as the home screen means pushing the menu button on the touchscreen. Then there's a choice of on-screen options (see below). It would be quicker if there were shortcut buttons surrounding the screen

Verdict

  • Good looks
  • Promising fuel economy and decent performance
  • Choppy town ride and sunroof retracts but doesn't open
