It's been with us for 5000 miles and for the first time the average fuel consumption on our all-wheel drive Leon X-perience's has dipped below 40mpg (39.6mpg).

This was down largely to its role in a fully loaded family holiday in France that involved a roof box to house ancillary kit. Theoretically, the DSG transmission, mated to the muscular 184hp diesel engine, provides better economy than conventional auto 'boxes can manage, but in eco, normal or sport modes, progress up through the ratios is a tad harsher than expected from supposedly seamless twin-clutch technolog
