Our Fleet Test Drive: Seat Leon ST - 11th report

Being asked for car advice is a constant feature of being in this business, but some cars, like the Seat Leon, make it very easy to recommend them

A consequence of editing a car-related publication is the frequent tap-up for advice on car purchases from friends, family, friends of family, family of friends and beyond.

However, as a car enthusiast it's not a problem talking metal with people who aren't always sure what they want, or what is even out there, especially as some vehicles make it quite easy for me to throw into the debate.

The Leon is certainly one such model. Basically a VW without the price premium, Seat's product quality, appeal and running costs are all better than at any previous point, which makes the brand an easy one to highlight to prospective purchasers, new or used.

Useful features help too, like the one I stumbled across on a recent trip to Ikea. To make sure I had something to do on a wet Sunday afternoon we went flat-pack shopping, and discovered that the Leon's front passenger seat handily tilts fully forward to transport unappealing large boxes full of ready-to-assemble wardrobes.
