Our Fleet Test Drive: Suzuki Vitara - 10th report

Why we're running it: To see if a petrol crossover can make sense as a business car, despite having higher emissions than the equivalent diesel. Equipment: Seven airbags, satnav, DAB radio, double-sliding panoramic sunroof, climate control, front foglamps, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, Radar Brake Support, keyless entry and start, 17-inch alloy wheels, suede and leather upholstery Options: Rugged pack, which adds front and rear skid plates and a boot protector (£500), metallic paint (£430), detachable tow bar (£351)

Having spent a fair amount of time driving our long-term Vitara and the S-cross, I'm in no doubt as to which of Suzuki's crossovers I prefer.

The Vitara is cheaper, better looking, rides more comfortably and is only marginally smaller inside than the S-cross.

One thing the Vitara misses out on, though, is heated front seats. They're standard on the SZ5 spec S-cross (although, admittedly, this car costs £2000 more than our Vitara). With the mild start to the winter it wasn't a feature I'd missed, but after a bout of snow and sub-zero temperatures it's an extra I wish was available to Vitara drivers.
