Our Fleet Test Drive: Vauxhall Ampera - 3rd Report

Date: 21 January 2014   |   Author:

Mileage: 7344
P11D price: £38,940
Our average consumption: 125.5mpg
Official combined consumption: 235.4mpg
Forecast CPM: 64.6p

The Ampera learns how many miles your driving means it can travel on its battery and adjusts the projected range display.

When it arrived, it was reading that a full charge would last 35 miles, but now, full of electric juice, the read-out projects 44 miles, thanks in part to the car generally being used on my EV-friendly commute of A-road and 50mph motorway roadwork-dominated journey.

I recently tried an eco run of gentle acceleration and keeping the speed down. The result? I managed 52 miles before reverting to petrol. It's fair to say I'm impressed by the Ampera.

Verdict

  • Pioneering tech can set new mpg ground
  • Plugging it in when it's raining
