For our family, the Christmas break is always a good time to put a vehicle's boot capacity to the test.
We usually head up north to grandma's house for a festive few days, so have to carry enough luggage to see us through, plus the majority of the presents and a pushchair.
I was told I would be impressed by the scale of the boot before the car arrived, and it didn't disappoint - I think it's the first Christmas that I haven't had to worry about the order in which I packed the car, and just more or less threw everything in.
For the record, the Insignia has a large and practical boot space, which measures 530 litres with the seats up and 1470 litres with the seats down. That compares favourably with a Ford Mondeo's 528/1448 litres, but is not as big as the Skoda Superb, which provides, an admittedly mammoth, 595/1700 litres of room.
The only tiny problem was that when we reached our middle-of-nowhere countryside destination, the outside lights were out of action at the house, so I initially couldn't see very much when I opened the boot because its internal light, located to the left-hand side, was blocked off by the vast quantity of luggage/presents we'd carried up.
