Our Fleet Test Drive: Vauxhall Insignia - 5th report

Date: 26 August 2014   |   Author: Tony Rock

We'll cover all the ways of controlling the Insignia's phone, audio and satnav functions in a future report, but first up is voice recognition, activated by a button on the steering wheel.

It's a grand idea, and when it works you get to bask in self-satisfaction. However, whether it's my 'mockney' accent or a fault with the system, it's a bit miss and hit. It does its best with clear instructions, and when it hasn't understood me, suggestions, but too often my words are misheard. So, be amused by the electronic accent when it seeks clarification (e.g. 'Tork Spawt' for Talk Sport), laugh at your attempts at robot speak when trying to bridge the communication divide, and then try another mode of control.
