Our Fleet Test Drive: Vauxhall Zafira - 8th Report

Date: 12 December 2013   |   Author: Tony Rock

We've mentioned the versatility of the Zafira Tourer's Flex 7 seating in some previous reports.

Firstly, moving house meant all but the two front seats were folded flat to carry personal items plus the stuff removal firms won't take, such as tins of paint.

Then a trip to Ikea required the folding down of the left-sided seats in the second and third rows to fit in long shelving units plus our family of five.

A visit to the recycling centre when the two eldest kids were at school involved the folding down of four seats (two back, two middle), while we needed to use a sixth seat for my daughter's friend for a Christmas visit to see Santa.

What we haven't mentioned is that in everyday mode the rearmost seats remain folded so that the kids line up three abreast on the second row, while a pram plus shopping etc sit in the boot, a configuration that means the Zafira has passed every seating test we've given it.

Our model doesn't offer the extra flexibility of the SE and Elite trims, whose Lounge Seating allows you to turn the three individual second-row seats into two captain-style chairs with an armrest and extra space, but then again, with my family's needs, it's an option that wouldn't get used anyway.

Verdict

  • Flexibility of seating and space
  • Morning screen de-mist can take a while
