Our Fleet Test Drive: Volvo V40 - 2nd Report

Date: 04 December 2013   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

So cool

It's a small and unessential detail, but the V40's digital speedometer - a £350 option for what Volvo calls the TFT display, also coming with an illuminated gear knob - is really cool.

Volvo has developed a sort of torch effect, which illuminates a section of around 30mph on the move. You can still see the rest of the figures on the speedo well enough, they're just shrouded in a slightly darker shade, and the lit area moves around the dial with the needle.

It's the kind of thing that can help give the V40 an edge over more sober German rivals.
