On the road, there isn’t anything much about the Civic Tourer that’s likely to put off potential owners. The 1.6-litre engine doesn’t lack power, while the steering responds to fractional adjustments.

However, I’m finding the suspension a little too sensitive to road surfaces, which for me makes the car feel a bit jittery, particularly on the final few miles of 50mph country road that leads into my home town. The car does have an adaptive damper system, which allows you to tune the rear suspension to normal, comfort or dynamic mode (by pressing the ‘shock absorber’ button, located in the middle and at the bottom of the picture) to suit the road surface, but while it may cure any suspension issues, in reality, if you’re anything like me and not a driver’s driver, it’s unlikely you’ll want to spend much time using anything other than the ‘normal’ setting.
