BMW hits No.4 in June

Date: 12 July 2006

Last month we heralded the continued rise of the

premium makers noting the impressive persistence of BMW and Audi within fleet's top 10 sales chart. The month of May had the blue propeller just beating its four rings foe to seventh place.

Impressive stuff, until June's sales volumes landed.

BMW has broken away from the premium pack racking enough sales to worry, and even beat, the mainstream players. More impressive when you read beneath the lines. BMW will shortly replace it's much loved 3-series coupe, X5, revise its X3 and introduce niche models like the Z4 coupe.

Painting an even rosier picture for the German brand is that this volume spike builds on an already impressive performance seeing the brand increasing volumes to fleet by 18% over this time last year, swelling total market share to 7.2% in June.

As a whole, fleet sales ended the first six months of 2006 down 2.8%, or 17,000 cars, compared with 2005 at 601,195 registrations.
