Volvo campaigns for c-charge emissions equality

Volvo has launched a campaign calling for London mayor Boris Johnson to review the basis of charging for the London Congestion Charging zone.
Volvo believes cars entering London's congestion charging zone should be treated on an equal basis - tailpipe CO2 emissions, not on fuel type. However the firm stopped short of suggesting a replacement system, instead calling on the mayor to review the current system.
"The principle of hybrid cars being exempt from the congestion charge is now outdated and unfair. Drivers of hybrid cars enter the zone free of charge on a daily basis while drivers of low emission cars powered by conventional internal combustion engines with the same, or even lower, levels of emissions are charged £8 a day. This 'tax' could add a financial burden of over £2000 a year to those drivers who have selected a traditionally-powered low emission car," said a Volvo spokesman.
Volvo's range of low-CO2 Driv-e cars now includes three models with emissions of less than 105g/km.
