The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) has called on the Government not to punish the fleet industry when coming up with plans to improve the country's air quality.
According to the BVRLA, policymakers need to come up with incentives and restrictions that encourage more sustainable travel but don't punish businesses for decisions based on previous Government policies.
The call for action follows on from the Government's recent Air Quality Plan consultation, with the final strategy due to be published by 31 July.
The leasing body has called on the Government to:
"BVRLA members fully appreciate the urgent need to address air pollution in the UK, which requires a change in the way we travel and the vehicles we use," said BVRLA chief executive Gerry Keaney.
He added: "Our sector has enormous buying power and provides advice to thousands and thousands of drivers and fleet operators. If the Government can deliver the right tax regime, incentives and guidance, we can have a huge impact in improving air quality across the country."
