Date: 02 July 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Prices and specifications have been revealed for the new Hyundai Kona Electric.

The battery-powered version of the small SUV is available with a choice of two powertrains - a 39kW/h battery with a 100kW motor providing 136hp, or a 64kW/h battery with a 150kW motor producing 204hp, with the latter said to offer a potential range of 300 miles.

Trim options are: SE, which is only available with the 39kWh battery; Premium, available with both powertrains; and Premium SE, which only comes with the 64kW/h battery.

Prices start at £29,495 for the SE, which comes with equipment including a 7in screen with DAB, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear parking sensors, a rear view camera, automatic lights and climate control.

Stepping up to Premium trim - priced at £30,870 with the 39kW/h battery and £33,995 with the 64kW/h battery - adds equipment including an 8in touchscreen display with sat-nav, privacy glass, front parking sensors, automatic windscreen wipers and wireless charging,

Premium SE cars, costing £36,295, also come with equipment including LED headlamps with high beam assist, static cornering lights, a head up display, electrically adjustable and heated and ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.

All prices listed exclude the UK Government's plug-in car grant.

All Kona Electrics come with standard safety features including: autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian recognition; forward collision warning; hill start assist; lane keep assist; smart cruise control; and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Other systems, including blind spot detection, lane follow assist and rear cross traffic alert, are also available depending on trim level.

Order books open on 2 August. Hyundai says the Kona Electric will initially only be available to order through its website, before rolling out across its dealer network in 2019.
