The average price of used diesel and electric cars rose significantly during 2020, according to remarketing company Autorola.
It says the average diesel car price was up by 8.5% to £13,847, but that despite this price rise, and the continued collapse of demand for diesels in the new car market, 37.4% of cars Autorola sold during the year had a diesel engine.
As for electric cars, these saw a 24.8% spike to an average price of £19,978, although they made up just 0.8% of sales.
Autorola UK group sales director Jon Mitchell said: "Diesel demand and prices for dealer part exchanges and ex-fleet stock have both been strong during 2020 and there are no signs of it falling which is good news for the trade and consumers alike.
"We are definitely seeing a rise in demand for electric cars in the used market, but prices are still trying to find their level. Not surprisingly it will take a while until we start to see higher volumes reaching auction and, in the meantime, the EV prices in the used value guides should be used sparingly as every single car we sell seems to be worth a different amount to individual buyers."
As for petrol cars, which accounted for 58.9% of Autorola's sales, these increased in price by 2.9% to £10,706 on average, while used hybrids - which made up 2.9% of sales - were down by 1.4% to £16,602 on average.
