BMW adds higher powered diesel to 7-series

26 June, 2009

BMW has added a 740d to the line-up of its flagship range.

The 740d will become the second diesel in the luxury car line-up and joins the 730d, itself upgraded, in September.

Powering the BMW 740d is a twin-turbo 3.0-litre diesel producing 306PS. The car is capable of 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 155mph, yet has an official fuel figure of 40.9mpg. The 740d’s CO2 output comes in at 181g/km.

Meanwhile the 730d, which currently accounts for 85% of 7-series sales, has been revised to boost efficiency. The Efficient Dynamic tweaks see the 730d hit 41.5mpg and 178g/km.
