The Dynamic Driving Control system is now standard across the range. Four settings - Comfort, Normal, Sport and Sport+ - allow the driver to select speed of throttle response and adjust the suspension settings. The firmer, sportier options are more geared towards the driver, while Comfort has the passenger firmly in mind and BMW's trademark firm ride was nowhere to be seen. In fact, in general, the 7-series' ride is good, even on bad surfaces.
Prices start at £66,450 for the 750i, which stacks up well against its rivals, being cheaper than both the equivalent Audi A8 and Mercedes S-class rivals.
Emissions of 266g/km, however, place the 750i firmly over the 35% tax threshold and the 730d will obviously make more sense financially. Ignoring tax for a second, the 750i's emissions are superior to all its rivals: the Mercedes S-class and Jaguar XJR come in at 279g/km and 299g/km respectively. The closest Audi A8 available in terms of power is miles behind, kicking out 324g/km of CO2.
A host of new technology is making its debut on the 7-series. Night vision cameras to highlight pedestrians, a camera that recognises speed limits and wing-mounted cameras to aid visibility when emerging from side roads are all neat additions.
However, thanks to a cheaper P11D, the Jag is 'Our Pick' for now, although that could change when costs are out for the BMW.
