The fleet market never fully embraced the old Citroen C5, and by the end of its life it had drifted quietly out of the top 100 fleet models with just 1200 sold into the corporate market last year.

By comparison, the Ford Mondeo was knocking on the door of 40,000.

The new model is intended to reverse the C5's fleet fortunes, bringing a dose of striking style to the traditional Citroen qualities of quirky innovation and good comfortable ride quality.

At the car's launch, Citroen informed us of the fleet driver's preference for a German car - an assertion backed up by the latest sales results for the premium upper medium sector.

Which is why the French brand Citroen has used the Germanic model as an influence. This is first evident in the styling - this is a very attractive car. But it is nothing groundbreaking - there are echoes of the BMW 3-series and previous generations of Audi's A4, which is no bad thing, and with the long front overhang Citroen is renowned for it still retains elements of Gallic charm.
