BMW Z4: Test Drive Review

BMW's convertible sports car has come down below 160g/km, and, like buses, two models have arrived at once.
This 184hp 20i version and the 245hp 28i model both offer 159g/km and a combined 41.5mpg. The difference is in the price, with the lower-powered model coming in £4125 cheaper than the Z4 28i, keeping it just under the £30,000 point.
Described as a new entry into BMW sports car ownership, the 20i model is still reasonably quick, and will crack the 0-62mph dash in less than seven seconds, but it feels like it's missing the extra urge of its more powerful siblings. Residual values are impressive at 44.5%, and the handling is better than rivals, although the Mercedes SLK runs it closer than ever before. In fact, the SLK 200, also 184hp, matches the Z4 20i's 67.0ppm running costs.
The BMW is just about the better drive and the SLK is arguably the better to look at, while both are almost inseparable on P11D, efficiency and power.
