Ssangyong Rexton Test Drive Review

Ssangyong has given a light facelift to its Rexton SUV. With a new grille and projector headlamps, the exterior styling is not inelegant, and for customers operating on a budget who are not too brand-conscious it might suit their needs as a family vehicle.

Powered by a 2.0-litre Ssangyong diesel engine with a power output of 155hp, the Rexton W comes with a choice of six-speed manual gearbox or the five-speed Mercedes-Benz T-Tronic auto 'box on the model we tested. This delivers smooth enough on-road performance in conjunction with taut, responsive power-steering, although the ride did tend to get jittery on uneven surfaces. When off-road, the selectable 4x4 system handled everything a farmer could throw at it. The Rexton W EX Auto emits 206g/km of CO2 and has official fuel consumption of 36.2mpg on the combined cycle.

The third row of seats folds flat and the second row tumbles forward to create extra load space. The interior also features leather seats but is strictly no frills and has an overload of hard black plastic
