Without wanting to be accused of harbouring magpie tendencies, I must confess to being drawn to a lot of the shiny stuff in the new 308. Having extolled the virtues of the sparkly new volume control a few issues ago, I'm at it again, enjoying every gear change a little bit more because of the chunky, 'miniature racing helmet-like', metal-dipped gear knob. First seen in the 208 GTi - with a red insert where this one uses black - it denotes a Peugeot six-speed gearshifter and, while genuinely chilly on first touch in the winter, warms up quick enough and is another sign of real quality.
