BusinessCar Awards 2014 - Supermini: Mini

Date: 28 January 2014

Next year we'll have the chance to see if Mini can hold on to the supermini class across a third generation of its BMW-owned product, but for now the little hatchback can bask in the glory of being voted to a 12th successive victory in these awards, making it by far the most successful model in the BusinessCar Awards history.

With residual values to match the most premium of cars, the Mini has, over the past decade, become the automotive benchmark for both urban chic and running costs, two things that very rarely go together. And that's before the unrivalled handling and great performance are factored in.

The new three-door hatchback model arrives in the UK this spring with a choice of three new engines, including the 1.5-litre diesel offering 114hp and emissions of 98g/km, which is just 1g/km better than the current model, although power rises from the 90hp of the current diesel. There will also be 134hp 1.5 and 189hp 2.0 petrol models.

But the current-generation car has been a spectacular success, just as the first was. It's the low running costs, great driving experience and all-round excellence that make for a multiple award winner.
