Peugeot and Citroen unveil crossover siblings

Peugeot and Citroen have both released pictures of their forthcoming 4x4s crossovers.

Dubbed 4007 for the Peugeot and C-Crosser for the Citroen, the new French 'lifestyle' vehicles complete the development trilogy with fellow firm Mitsubishi, which has already launched its own version, the Outlander 4x4, in the Japanese market.

Boasting a higher ground clearance and an electronically controlled all-wheel drive, both C-Crosser and 4007 will offer superior traction when the going gets slippy compared to a conventional estate.

Both will also play a convincing role as an MPV, too, offering a third row of seats that folds flat into the floor. The two should also make the perfect accompaniment for picnics, if you believe Citroen, which claims the split tailgate assists al fresco dining.

On launch the crossovers will be available with the PSA group's powerful but efficient 2.2 HDi diesel. Producing 158PS on launch, the Peugeot will be able to capable of running up to 30% biofuel mix without modification.

Both the C-Crosser and 4007 siblings are expected to go on sale in late summer next year.
