Essex takes steps to cut carbon footprint

Date: 20 March 2007

Essex County Council is trialling a Ford Focus Flexible Fuel Vehicle in a bid to reduce the council's carbon footprint.

According to Ford, the Focus FFV runs on biofuels derived from UK-grown crops such as wheat and sugar beet, that cancels out up to 70% of a cars emissions thanks to the CO2 absorbed during the growing process.

The FFV Focus costs the same as the regular 1.8-litre car and can run any mix of unleaded or biofuel in the same tank.

Ford plans to introduce further flexifuel versions of its forthcoming Mondeo, S-max and Galaxy models.
