Nissan aims for treble top

In a UK industry first, Nissan is planning to partner with Volvo Trucks to sell LCVs as part of a wider push by the Japanese brand to capture a greater share of the van market and treble sales.

The CV expansion is part of a world-wide plan by Nissan. In the UK Mark Lovett has been appointed from sister brand Renault to run the LCV business unit.

Lovett has put together a dedicated team of sales and marketing professionals who will help and support 50 commercial vehicle specialist dealers.

The new dealer network, plus the nine Volvo truck dealers, will work on capturing smaller company van deals.

"We need to get the dealers motivated, so we are proactively targeting the local business users. We're not turning away big fleet business, but we're just more proactive in the smaller business area. Larger business gets expensive," said Lovett.

His team will include three regional managers responsible for about 15 dealers each. "These managers will coach and mentor the dealers and help with prospecting, basically giving them confidence," added Lovett.

"Over the next three years we want to triple our van volume with the help of new product and an evolving dealer network, and I think we have the potential to be a top five player in the next five years."
