West Country cops focus on companies in car crime clampdown

Some 300 arrests have been made since the beginning of 2007 thanks to a clampdown on car crime by South Gloucestershire police.
However, more arrests are needed to help the 500 people, on average, a week affected by car crime in the West Country.
In the battle to curb the shocking statistics, the police are now turning their attention to businesses.
Officers will visit big businesses in Avon and Somerset with a 'crime reduction roadshow' to teach simple and easy methods to avoid theft from cars. Police officers will hand out leaflets, posters, key rings and even car fresheners branded with 'Remove it, lock it, keep it'.
Chief Superintendent Andy Francis said: "Our message to the motorist is that it is easy to deter thieves from targeting your vehicle. Park it in busy, well-lit areas. Makes sure you lock up and don't leave anything in view. Don't leave phone or satnav holders visible - it's a clue to the criminal and they'll break in to see if you've left the gadget in the glovebox or under the seat."
