Armoured Land Rover defends Hampshire

Hampshire police have added an armoured Land Rover Defender to their fleet.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said the vehicle will replace the force's out-dated current armoured vehicle, which, as with most police forces in England and Wales, was purchased on the recommendation of the Home Office following the Hungerford shootings in August 1987.
The armoured Defender, expected to have a 10-year life on the fleet, will not only be used for shootings, but also for counter terrorist events, sieges and helping control or evacuate the scene of a violent incident.
Fleet manager John Bradley said: "This new vehicle provides us with the very latest armouring technology.
"It gives us extra resilience within the force, and is part of the ongoing strengthening of our protective services."
"The beauty of this vehicle is that the armoured pod can be utilised on the next generation chassis cab so it has at least a minimum of ten years life expectancy."
