Local councils rake in cash from unlawful fines, says BBC

A new report claims local councils are pocketing hundreds of thousands of pounds by enforcing unlawful fines.
The BBC investigation claims fines have been levied despite issues such as parking bays being too small, and the use of illegal box junctions or incorrect signage.
The report also claims London councils are questioning the wisdom of repaying illegally obtained fines despite the Department for Transport saying councils should "seriously consider" it.
The BBC reports Haringey council in London has incorrectly taken £120,000 from motorists over two yellow box junctions in Tottenham, while an incorrectly marked bus and tram lane in Sheffield has raked in £350,000 for the council.
The BBC claims the problem is a national one, with authorities collectively making tens of millions of pounds from drivers.
