Nissan slams NCAP as first pick-up tests released

Nissan has blasted Euro NCAP after the vehicle safety organisation released the first set of crash-test results for its latest category - pick-ups.
The Nissan Navara achieved a very low score of one star with a strikethrough for adult protection. This score was the result of delayed deployment of the airbags.
Following consultation with NCAP after the results of the test, Nissan developed new software to fix the issue that affects Navaras produced between May and December of last year. While Nissan then provided a new vehicle for testing, the results released by NCAP today are for the original.
This led Nissan to state that it is "disappointed that Euro NCAP has not published the results for the re-test of Navara, equipped with upgraded airbag control unit software".
Other pick-ups that have been tested are the Mitsubishi L200 and the Isuzu Rodeo. The results will not make for good reading at Isuzu either, as the Rodeo managed a two-star score, with a strikethrough for the risk of life threatening injury to the chest region.
While the L200 scored a respectable 4/5 stars for adult protection, it managed only 3/5 for child protection.
Other results released today were for the Citroen C5, BMW's X3, the Daihatsu Terios Suzuki's Splash and the Renault Kangoo. Of these, only the C5 managed 5/5 for adult protection, with all the others scoring 4/5.
