The start point for the best source of fleet information

Safety organisation issues tyre warning

Date: 27 October 2008   |   Author: Hugh Hunston

Fleets that neglect the state of their vehicles' tyres are reducing fuel economy while adding to maintenance and replacement costs, according to Tyresafe.

Bob Beddis, the tyre industry safety organisation's chairman, pointed to a 20% reduction in recommended tyre pressures resulting in cutting tyre life by around 25%.

Tyresafe also says that not being vigilant about regular tyre checks, as part of an overall maintenance and service routine, can compromise safety and have duty of care consequences.

The corporate driver and their managers are among the target audience Tyresafe is aiming to reach in its October tyre safety month initiative.
