VW Golf priced up

Date: 22 October 2008

Volkswagen Golf

Volkswagen's Golf is available to order with prices starting at £13,150 for the entry-level 1.4 S model.

The expected big seller, the 110PS 2.0-litre diesel in SE trim, works out at £17,275. The 2.0-litre engine is an all-new unit, replacing the old 105PS 1.9 version.

Prices over the previous Golf have risen by about £500-£700 across the range, depending on engine and specification levels.

Volkswagen justifies the price rise by pointing to the increased level of quality and standard kit in the sixth generation Golf.

The new car offers seven airbags, a new multi-function computer and new back lights on the dashboard.

VW also confirmed prices for the new Golf GTI are likely to be in line with the rest of the range when it comes on sale in June/July 2009.
